Associate in Regulation and Compliance (ARC)

By earning the Associate in Regulation and Compliance designation, you will gain a better understanding of the insurance regulatory environment and the effect regulation has on the business of insurance. You will be able to understand the interests of both insurance regulators and those who must comply with insurance regulation.

Meeting the ARC program requirements earns the ARC designation. Passing the IR 201 exam earns a certificate of completion.

Ethics requirement. The Institutes believe ethical decision making skills are essential to the practice of insurance. Starting January 2011, all designation program participants must complete either Ethical Guidelines for Insurance Professionals (for all programs except CPCU) or the CPCU program’s Ethics and the CPCU Code of Professional Conduct. Both online modules are free. Learn more and register now.

You may choose to earn a certificate of completion by passing the IR 201 exam. The courses below are required to earn the ARC designation:

IR 201–Insurance Regulation: Evolution of Insurance Regulation; Federal Government; State Insurance Departments; NAIC and State Legislatures; Solvency Regulation; Regulation of Formation, Licensing, and Marketing; Regulation of Underwriting and Rates; Regulation of Claims; Regulation of Agents and Brokers; Receiverships and Guaranty Funds

Program Options: The Associate in Regulation and Compliance designation program is available as a self-study program via printed textbooks and course guides.

Public classes at third-party providers may be available for ARC courses.

We Recommend ARC for: Agents/brokers, agency principals, claim adjusters, finance and accounting personnel, line of business managers and executives, regulatory compliance specialists, risk managers, and underwriters.

Exam Information: The IR 201 exam is offered at Institutes-approved on-site testing locations and Prometric Testing Centers. Contact your education coordinator for further information about on-site testing availability.

The IR 201 exam consists of 85 objective questions, and examinees have two hours to complete each exam. See CPCU 520 and AIAF 114 for the respective exam information.
