State CE and Licensing

Identify continuing education (CE) credits available in your state and learn about courses and resources to help you maintain your license.

NEW: State CE rules require students to review course material prior to testing. Please read below how this rule impacts access to virtual exams.

I do recommend The Institutes. Continuing education is the ying to the the job experience yang. They work together, with each other. One without the other is incomplete.

State CE Credits

NEW: Because state CE rules require students to review course material prior to testing, starting July 15, 2021 we are required to delay access to virtual exams. Here's what this means to you:

  • If you purchase BEFORE the exam window opens, you will have access from the first day of the window.
  • If you purchase a virtual exam in an open/active exam window, you will get access to the exam one day after purchase.

If you have requested CE, we will report your credits to your state(s) after you pass your exam. Credits may vary by state and license type.

To check availability of CE credits for your course, choose your license type and state below:

State Requirements

  • If you decline CE, none will be reported.
  • It is the student's responsibility as a licensed producer or adjuster to understand and meet state CE requirements and procedures, which may include getting a proctor for a virtual exam or delayed access to a virtual exam.

  • Virginia CE Applicants: Review Course Introduction Statement

  • The State of Washington requires licensees to review the entire course before viewing or completing the exam.
  • Prometric Testing Centers satisfy state test administration and proctoring requirements.
  • Some states do not permit late reporting and some allow it with an extra fee. Any late filing fees and charges will be the sole responsibility of the student.
  • Contact the applicable state licensing entity or visit their website if you have questions regarding state CE requirements for exam proctoring and filing.
  • If you register for an Institutes’ exam and require CE, you are aware of and approve of The Institutes’ acquiring licensing information from national and state associations and organizations for the sole purpose of CE compliance. Acquired data will not be sold or provided to any third party.
