Associate in National Flood Insurance (ANFI™)
What is the Associate in National Flood Insurance (ANFITM)?
The Associate in National Flood Insurance (ANFITM) is a new designation program developed by The Institutes in cooperation with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
To earn the ANFITM designation, you must pass these exams:
National Flood Insurance: Fundamentals exam (available in July)
National Flood Insurance: Advanced Studies exam (available in October)
Ethical Guidelines for Insurance Professionals exam (online learning module now available)
In addition, new designees are strongly encouraged to participate in a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) component after earning the designation. The CPD component helps designees increase their visibility by awarding them points based on additional courses or programs they complete, as well as for articles written, classes taught, and similar activities that enhance the designee’s knowledge. Guidelines for the CPD program will be available soon.
Why was ANFITM created?
The ANFITM designation program was created by The Institutes, in cooperation with FEMA, to help insurance professionals reinforce their knowledge of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). It also enhances a designee’s credibility as “floodsmart.”
For whom is the ANFITM program recommended?
The ANFITM designation is recommended for all insurance professionals (including agents, brokers, adjusters, and risk managers), company underwriters, and flood vendors who wish to demonstrate their understanding of the NFIP.
What are the study options for the three ANFITM program requirements?
The National Flood Insurance: Fundamentals exam is based on content from the National Flood Insurance Program Flood Insurance Manual and the Mandatory Purchase of Flood Insurance Guidelines booklet.
The National Flood Insurance: Advanced Studies exam is application-based and covers content from the NFIP Flood Insurance Manual.
To prepare for the two exams, you must study these materials, which are provided by FEMA free of charge. When you register for your course, you will receive a syllabus that outlines the material that is covered by the corresponding exam, as well as a practice exam.
The Ethical Guidelines for Insurance Professionals learning module is presented online. To try a demo of an Institutes online learning module, visit www.aicpcu.org/comet.
Why should I earn the ANFITM designation?
Earning the ANFITM designation reinforces the knowledge and skills you need to accurately apply the NFIP underwriting rules and regulations to writing and servicing flood insurance and to confidently discuss policy coverages with policyholders and property owners. Plus, it gives you a tangible way to demonstrate your knowledge of flood insurance: a designation.
After earning the designation, your name will appear along with your designation on the FloodSmart.gov Web site, signifying to potential clients, as well as your colleagues, that you have verified your knowledge of flood insurance.
How do I earn the ANFITM designation?
Persons who pass the exams in National Flood Insurance: Fundamentals, National Flood Insurance: Advanced Studies, and Ethical Guidelines for Insurance Professionals will earn the ANFITM designation.
Can I earn continuing education (CE) credits for completing the courses required to earn the ANFITM designation?
Currently, The Institutes are working to file the National Flood Insurance: Fundamentals exam for continuing education credits. CE credits are currently available in most states for the Ethical Guidelines for Insurance Professionals online learning module. See the Ethical Guidelines for Insurance Professionals Web page for full details.
CE credit is not available for the National Flood Insurance: Advanced Studies exam.
Where can I take the exams?
The National Flood Insurance: Fundamentals exam is available at select on-site testing locations and Prometric Testing Centers. Contact your corporate education coordinator for on-site exam information. To find a Prometric Testing Center near you, visit www.prometric.com/AICPCU.
The National Flood Insurance: Advanced Studies exam is an application-based exam that can be administered on your personal computer. You may use the NFIP Flood Insurance Manual during the exam; however, you will need a colleague or supervisor to proctor the exam and sign an affidavit.
The Ethical Guidelines for Insurance Professionals online learning module exam can be taken on your personal computer.
What is included with the exam registration price?
After registering for the National Flood Insurance: Fundamentals or National Flood Insurance: Advanced Studies exam, you will receive a syllabus that outlines all of the information covered on the corresponding exam. You will also receive access to one practice exam.
To prepare for the two ANFITM exams, you will need to download a free copy of the National Flood Insurance Program Flood Insurance Manual and the Mandatory Purchase of Flood Insurance Guidelines booklet from FEMA’s NFIP Web site, www.fema.gov/business/nfip .
I’m a CPCU; do I still need to take the Ethical Guidelines for Insurance Professionals online learning module?
Yes. The new Ethical Guidelines for Insurance Professionals course contains new content and therefore is not waived for someone who is a CPCU or who has taken CPCU 510.
